The Community of the Sisters of Saint John, established as a religious Institute of Diocesan Right by the Archbishop of Lyon on March 25, 1994, was founded by Father Marie Dominique Philippe, O.P. on December 8, 1982, seven years after the Brothers of Saint-John, in view of a contemplative life. Usually establishing their houses near a priory of their Brothers, they can thus take part in the mission of their Brother and Sister apostles by their presence, prayer, and service. The Contemplative Sisters of Saint John desire to live a life of prayer and adoration. Their mission is to be silent witnesses of Christ's love for the Church and for all men.
The "Saint Therese" Convent of the Contemplative Sisters of St. John in Princeville, IL serves as the novitiate for the US. After a period of time in the School of Life, sisters begin their religious formation as novices here before going to France to continue their formation.
The Sisters dedicate part of their day to manual work. The products we present on this website have been handcrafted by the Sisters.
Their craft work helps to supply for their needs as much as possible, yet due to the demands of their life of prayer, they are unable to fully meet their material needs. For this reason they gratefully accept donations from benefactors.
